Cinco de Mayo is not an American Holiday. But, with our roots grounded here in Arizona and our Ranch being located around 25 miles from the Mexican Border we believe that celebrating some of the Mexican Border Neighbors Holidays is a good thing. Besides that Cinco de Mayo is a fun and happy celebration, filled with watching Mexican dancers and drinking Coronas and Margaritas.

With so many people of Mexican descent in Arizona and the close proximity to Mexico, it's no wonder that Cinco de Mayo is a day much anticipated in the “It's 'Arizona, One Grand Adventure After Another,” state. Cinco de Mayo means "fifth of May" in Spanish. It's a day for fun, food, music, and dancing.

Many people mistakenly believe that Cinco de Mayo (seen-koh day my-oh) is the Mexican Independence Day, such as our 4th of July, but it is not. Mexican Independence Day is September 16th. Cinco de Mayo is a national holiday in Mexico commemorating the Battle of Puebla.

On May 5, 1862 a small group of Mexican soldiers defeated a formidable French army that was twice its size. Mexico had long before (September 16, 1810) declared its Independence, but there were constant struggles to maintain Mexico's freedom for a long time after the country became independent from Spanish rule.

If you want to celebrate Cinco de Mayo try some of these.

In Bisbee – There will be many different celebrations; the most noted is probably the Brewery Gulch, although they celebrate it as the Mexico’s Independence Day.

In Serria Vista - There will be Mariachi music, Folklorico Dancers, food and a great carnival on all three days. Come and enjoy this Latin-themed event in the Veterans Park.

In Tombstone – The City, which is built on Tourism, doesn’t disappoint its visitors. They have a Cinco de Mayo celebration, which overtakes the entire town. It has been several years since we attended this one, because we like to go to many different celebrations but when we were there it was grand to say the least.

No matter where you go try and enjoy and take in the Mexican Historic Celebrations. Don’t go anywhere that doesn’t have dancers, and Ice-Cold Margaritas. Bands and other events are icing on the Cake. Have a great day, celebrating this old Mexican Holiday.
